Use this guide to activate the Sonar for Microsoft Teams integration. After activation, users can make and receive calls from the Calls tab in Microsoft Teams, while all call traffic continues to route through the Sonar network. All your existing Sonar features remain in effect, including auto attendants, call queues, and answering rules.

Microsoft License RequirementsÂ
To operate the net2phone Canada integration, you must have one of the MS Teams licenses listed below, as well as a free MS Teams Phone Resource Account license for the initial setup.Â
- Microsoft 365 Business Basic + Microsoft Teams Phone Standard (previously called “Common Area Phone”)
- Microsoft 365 Business Standard + Microsoft Teams Phone Standard
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium + Microsoft Teams Phone Standard
- E1 + Microsoft Teams Phone Standard
- E3 + Microsoft Teams Phone Standard
⚠️ Important Note for Global Admins
Assigning a Microsoft “Calling Plan” app to a user will conflict with the Sonar integration and prevent sync. The Microsoft Calling Plan app must be removed or disabled before enablement.
Check out Microsoft's Licensing Documentation page for the most recent licence add-on compatibility information, or contact your Microsoft Representative.
Step 1: Granting Administrator Consent
This is a one-time setup performed by your organization's Microsoft 365 Global Administrator.
- You will receive an activation email from net2phone Canada. Open the email and click Accept Invitation.Â
- You will be redirected to a Microsoft login page. Sign in using your Microsoft 365 Global Administrator credentials.
- Review the requested permissions.
- Select Consent on behalf of your organization.
- Click Accept to grant permission.
- Once completed, please reply to the activation email to confirm that you have granted consent, allowing the enablement process to proceed.

Step 2: Request Enablement Per User
Granting consent does not automatically activate users. Each Microsoft Teams user must be enabled by net2phone Canada before they can place or receive calls.
⚠️ Important Note for Microsoft 365 Global Admins: When a Sync Is Required
Only the Microsoft 365 Global Admin can perform this sync. A Microsoft Teams sync is required every time:
- A new Microsoft Teams Phone Standard license is added, and
- A new Sonar user is enabled for Teams.
The Sync Now button will appear in the Microsoft Teams Global Admin portal every time a license change or user mapping update is pending. If the Sync Now button does not appear, try refreshing the page or wait for Microsoft to complete processing the license assignment.

Please note that after our team confirms the setup is complete, it may take up to 24–72 hours for Microsoft to update fully and for the dial pad to appear.
Before requesting enablement
- The Microsoft Teams Phone Standard license must already be assigned to the user.
- Requests submitted without a license in place will be delayed.
Who can request enablement
- Any Sonar user may submit an enablement request to net2phone Canada. If the license has already been added, the request will be completed in a timely manner without delays.Â
- Only the Microsoft 365 Global Admin can add the required license and perform the sync inside the Microsoft Teams admin portal.
How to request enablement
If this request is part of your new setup process, your assigned Onboarding agent will complete the request; if you are done onboarding with net2phone Canada, you can submit a request through to our Support or Client Success teams.Â
New customers Â
Continue working with your assigned Onboarding Specialist. You do not need to request enablement for all users at once.
Existing customers Â
Submit a request to our Customer Success Managers (CSMs) or email success@net2phone.ca. Â Alternatively, you can contact Technical Support at any time by dialling 611 from any net2phone Canada device or emailing support@net2phone.ca.
Backend Sync (completed by net2phone Canada)Â
After a user enablement request is submitted, net2phone Canada will:
- Link each Teams user to their corresponding Sonar extension.
- Apply routing and call permissions.
- Validate the Microsoft Teams licensing.
- Complete authentication and backend sync.
- Notify you when enablement is complete.
