Expand Your Interface
When you first open Sonar Phone, the layout matches the mobile app. Click-and-drag the browser corner to expand the window for the full desktop interface, including your user card, dial pad, voicemail, contacts, and more.

Call Quality Tips for Browser Calling
Follow these best practices before and during calls to get the clearest calls and the most reliable experience with Sonar Phone.
Use a Reliable Internet Connection
- VoIP call quality depends on your internet speed and stability.
- Use a wired connection or strong Wi-Fi whenever possible.
- Ask your IT team about enabling QoS/traffic shaping to prioritize voice traffic.
Choose a Quality Headset
- Headsets improve call clarity and reduce background noise.
- Avoid low-quality Bluetooth devices that may cut out.
- Use a wired headset or a business-grade wireless headset for best results.
Adjust your Audio Settings
After initially opening the app and choosing your audio preferences, you can switch your preferred microphone and speaker and adjust your ringtone volume and sound preferences in this section.Â
Use Chat or SMS When a Call Isn’t Needed
Sonar Phone supports internal chat and (if enabled) SMS/MMS. Quick messages help reduce unnecessary calls.
Customize your Notifications
After initially opening the app and enabling notifications, you can enable or disable desktop notifications and update your ringtone for incoming calls in the Settings section.
Switch Devices Seamlessly
You can switch between webphone, desk phone, and the Sonar Mobile App anytime. If your connection is unstable on the webphone, try the Make Calls Using feature to switch your outbound device.Â
Keep Your Call Queues Updated
If you rotate between devices, make sure your primary extension (e.g., 101
) and webphone extension (101wp
) are both included in your call queue(s) so you receive calls on the correct device.
Set Up Call Recording (If Needed)
- Call recording is enabled per device, not per extension.
- To enable recording for your webphone or mobile app, contact Support by dialing 611 or calling 1-877-498-3772 (option 3).
Managing Contacts
Manage all your business contacts directly from the Sonar Phone app.Â
Access your Contacts from Sonar PhoneÂ
- Navigate to the Contacts section by clicking the Contacts tab in the left sidebar.
- Search for a specific contact or Sort (Online, Extension, Last Name, First Name) and Filter (Favourites, My Contacts, Coworkers) your contact list.

Add a ContactÂ
You can add new contacts directly from the Sonar Phone app.Â
- Click the Plus icon to add a new contact.Â

- Click Save before navigating away.

Manage your Voicemail Inbox
Manage your voicemail inbox directly from Sonar Phone. You can listen to voicemails, delete or download audio messages, and update your voicemail greeting using Sonar Phone to record your message.Â
To listen to your voicemails:
- Navigate to the Voicemail tab.
- Click on a voicemail message to play it.
Keep your voicemail inbox organized using the Sonar Phone app:Â
- Delete unwanted messages.
- Download essential messages for future reference.
- Mark as Read/Unread to keep track of new voicemails.
Record a New Voicemail GreetingÂ
To create a new voicemail greeting directly from the Sonar Phone app:Â
- Open the Greeting tab.Â
- Click the plus icon in the top right corner.
- Enter a greeting name.Â
- Click play to begin recording. Â
- When you are done recording, click the stop icon.Â
You can listen to the recording to ensure you are satisfied. - Click Save to accept your new greeting.Â

Enable your new voicemail greeting:
- Click the greeting's name from the voicemail tab to expand additional options.
- Click the corresponding checkmark to enable your new greeting.Â

Managing Answering Rules
You cannot create new Answering Rules from the Sonar Phone app, but you can switch between existing ones and change their order.
To access your Answering Rules from Sonar Phone:Â
- Open Sonar Phone in your browser.
- Click the Answering Rules tab in the left sidebar.
To change your Answering Rule Priority, drag and drop your rules to set their priority—the most specific rules should be at the top.
To delete a personal Answering Rule, click the trash icon next to it.
Your changes will take effect immediately, determining how your calls are routed.
