The net2phone Canada Sonar service has been engineered to work in most environments without requiring changes to firewalls or other network components. Use this guide to review the firewall and network requirements that may be required to optimize your network for net2phone Canada’s Hosted PBX service.
Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 is not supported
The Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 modem/router combo is not compatible with net2phone Canada’s service. Neither a firmware update nor bridge mode will resolve issues caused by its DOCSIS processing. If you are using this device, contact net2phone Canada Support before proceeding with the rest of this guide.
Required protocols and ports
Ensure the following protocols and ports are allowed on your network for proper functionality.
| Service | Protocol | Ports | Direction | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SIP | UDP/TCP | 5060 | Outbound | Call signaling |
| Secure SIP (TLS) | TCP | 5061 | Outbound | Encrypted call signaling |
| WebRTC | TCP | 9002 | Outbound | WebRTC signaling |
| RTP (Audio) | UDP | 20000–37000 | Outbound | Voice audio |
| HTTP | TCP | 80 | Outbound | Device provisioning |
| HTTPS | TCP | 443 | Outbound | Secure provisioning and web access |
These connections are initiated by your phone to net2phone Canada’s soft-switch. If needed, allow connections to the following hosts:
proxy-pri.versature.comproxy-sec.versature.comproxy-ter.versature.comwebrtc-pri.versature.comwebrtc-sec.versature.com
If your router or firewall cannot whitelist domain names, use the resolved IP addresses and include the net2phone Canada IP blocks:Â
198.41.28.64/27204.235.80.0/20
SIP ALG must be disabled
Some routers and firewalls include a SIP ALG (Application Layer Gateway) feature that can interfere with call signalling and audio. Disable SIP ALG or SIP Helper in your router or firewall settings.
Phone provisioning services
Allow outbound access to the following provisioning services so supported devices can download their configurations during setup and registration.
Domain whitelisting is preferred
If your router or firewall supports domain-based allowlists, whitelist the vendor domains where possible. If domain-based allowlisting is not supported, use the resolved IP addresses instead.
If your router or firewall supports domain-based allowlists, whitelist the vendor domains where possible. If domain-based allowlisting is not supported, use the resolved IP addresses instead.
Click the device service type to reveal resolved IP addresses.Â

Bandwidth requirements
Each concurrent phone call uses approximately 88 Kbps in both directions. If two internal extensions are communicating, bandwidth usage doubles.
Quality of Service (QoS) and DiffServ prioritization
To help ensure optimal voice quality, prioritize traffic marked with EF (Expedited Forwarding) using the following values.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| EF DiffServ Decimal | 184 |
| EF DiffServ Hexadecimal | 0xb8 |
| EF DSCP Decimal | 46 |
| EF DSCP Hexadecimal | 0x2e |
Many third-party networks choose not to honour these markings; however, net2phone Canada equipment does add them to real-time packets.
Check your DNS servers
Your network's Domain Name System (DNS) servers help devices locate and connect to net2phone services. If you are experiencing issues receiving calls or maintaining a reliable connection, your current DNS configuration may be contributing to the issue. If your organization manages its own network or DNS configuration, contact your network administrator before making changes.
As a troubleshooting step, try configuring your network to use Google Public DNS:
Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
After changing your DNS settings, reconnect or restart the affected device and test your net2phone service again.
Cisco device configuration
On Cisco devices, disable the SIP helper using the following commands:
router(config)#no ip nat service sip tcp port 5060
router(config)#no ip nat service sip udp port 5060Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 router is not compatible with net2phone Canada Sync
The Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 modem/router combo is not compatible with net2phone Canada service. Neither a firmware update nor bridge mode will resolve issues caused by its DOCSIS processing.
If you are using this device, contact net2phone Canada Support before proceeding with the rest of this guide.
